Dedicated to Quality
and Customer Satisfaction For Over Twenty Years
Data Design Corporation was founded in 1986 to design and manufacture specialized measuring and data acquisition instrumentation. Much of this work has been specific to the needs of scientists and engineers at government and university research institutions. The company has many years of experience in evaluating instrumentation problems and suggesting methods of accomplishing measurement goals through analytical analysis and experience in solving
similar problems. The company is headquartered in Gaithersburg, Maryland in a 5000 square foot building that serves engineering and production needs.
Data Design provides experience in the design and construction of specialized instruments and other equipment intended to solve some very unique problems. We can begin the design of a project with detailed specifications or we can work with a customer to transform loosely defined ideas into a specification. We have a demonstrated ability to arrive at a solution to a challenging problem in a short time. We have created the procedures and channels required to perform rapid design turns, expedited materials delivery, and rapid assembly of finished products when time is critical.
The engineering staff has an impressive list of accomplishments in their work together. For example, the company has shown the ability to implement complex FPGA designs in schematic or HDL, integrate purchased IP, and interface any electronic device. FPGA code is almost always soft loaded to support flexibility and field updates of end designs, and has supported designs on well known platforms under Linux and Windows including USB, PCI, and the PowerPC. The company has also recently added to its mastery of analog and power systems with novel power management solutions incorporating high efficiency switching power supplies and subsystems powered by lithium ion and NiMh batteries along with solar and thermal power sources.
Moreover, the company’s exposure to advanced communication systems has included such technologies as
Ethernet, ATM, 802.11, Bluetooth, CDPD, and other wired and wireless
communications standards.
The company has a significant amount of experience incorporating embedded processors into instrument designs, from 8-bit microcontrollers of all types to advanced x86 and PowerPC devices. We have integrated Linux operating system kernels into x86,
PowerPC, Xilinx embedded PowerPC, and XScale/ARM processor designs including diskless systems that can boot directly from flash ROM. This technique, combined with a flash file system, provides flexibility in product software development, network connectivity, web connectivity, and other features benefiting from a multitasking environment.
Finally, Data Design has a rich
history of providing modular instrumentation products built around standards such as CAMAC, VME, PXI, and Compact PCI. Specialized instrumentation products have also been developed with GPIB, SCSI, USB, and serial interfaces. Flagship products include instruments supporting high bandwidth signal recording, digital delay generators, and fast framing video recorders. These instruments are sold primarily to government research institutions, university laboratories, and private research laboratories. In addition, the company has been involved in several government sponsored research programs alone and in partnership with other companies; including SBIR contracts, a CRADA contract through DOE, and a State of Maryland MIPS award. Most projects have involved custom equipment aimed at advancing public and private research efforts.
Generally, we have assisted in the planning of projects, designed and fabricated prototypes for evaluation and demonstration, and assisted in
product qualifications through government agencies.
Data Design has made a significant investment in tools and equipment for the engineering, production, and business aspects of the company’s operations, providing the ability to compete effectively with anyone in our field. Our facility includes ample room for design and production operations, our engineering labs are equipped
with the latest technology, and a model shop with automated surface mount production equipment provides us with the ability to turn design and production products quickly and cost effectively. As a highly capable company, fully focused on technology applications, there really is no better place to get the job done.
