CURRENT SUPPORT FOR THE SCSICrate UNDER VARIOUS OPERATING SYSTEMS

The SCSICrate was designed to connect to computers with a SCSI-2  interface port. Software is included with the SCSICrate to provide an easy interface to PC computers running DOS, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 95/98 operating systems.  This software uses the Advanced SCSI Programming Interface (ASPI) to access the port. The provided SCSICrate programming library hides the details of this implementation so that the user need only be familiar with CAMAC and not with the particulars of SCSI communications.

Complicating The Picture On Windows 2000

On Windows NT platforms, Microsoft does not support ASPI.  Under Windows NT 4.0, ASPI is supported by Adaptec EZ-SCSI which is typically included with the SCSICrate along with an Adaptec SCSI interface board. Under Windows 2000 ASPI is not currently supported by any vendor.  Data Design has developed a driver package to allow Windows 2000 users to operate the SCSICrate.  This package can be downloaded here as a self extracting ZIP file.  The package is in the beta test phase and is therefore not yet included on the CD.  Please follow the instructions in the package to complete the installation.

Other Operating Environments

The Macintosh operating system is supported for the SCSICrate by Sparrow Corporation though the KMax instrument software environment.  The associated KMax libraries are included with the Macintosh SCSICrate kit DDC3000-MAC.  KMax-NT libraries are included with all SCSICrate shipments.

Windows 3.1 support is available, but is strongly discouraged.  Contact the factory for special needs.
